Baby Loss Awareness Week - A Moment to Remember
Every year, between 9th–15th October, Baby Loss Awareness Week gives families across the world a moment to pause, reflect, and remember the little lives that left footprints on our hearts. 🕯️
It’s a time for compassion and connection for speaking about the things that are often left unsaid, and for showing anyone who has experienced loss that they are not alone.
For me, this week holds a very personal meaning.
🌸 My Story
Between my two daughters, I experienced two miscarriages, one of them deeply traumatic.
On the morning of our 12-week scan, I noticed some spotting. I tried to stay hopeful, but during the journey to the hospital, I began to feel contractions. By the time we arrived, I knew something was very wrong.
What followed was a blur of shock, loss, and emergency care, a moment I will never forget.
For a long time, I carried that pain quietly. Like so many parents, I didn’t know how to talk about it or whether I even could. The world keeps turning, but a part of you stands still.
🕊️ Learning to Speak About It
It took me years to realise how many others had walked this same path. When I finally opened up, I discovered a quiet sisterhood of parents who understood that mix of love, loss, and longing.
Talking about miscarriage isn’t easy but it’s important, because when we share our stories, we help others feel seen, understood, and a little less alone.
If you’ve experienced loss whether recently or many years ago, please know: your grief matters, your baby matters, and you matter. 💗
🌿 Why This Matters to Our Community
Here at Barney & Bella, we’ve always believed in creating a space that celebrates every part of the parenting journey, the joy, the chaos, and yes, the heartbreak too.
If you’d like to know more about how Barney & Bella began, you can read our story here, it’s where this journey truly started.
Behind every baby blanket, toy, and gift we create is a deep respect for what it means to love and nurture even when that love exists only in memory.
We light a candle this week for every parent who carries their baby’s love in their heart, and for every little one who will never be forgotten. 🕯️
💫 How You Can Take Part
If you’d like to take part in Baby Loss Awareness Week, here are a few simple, meaningful ways:
✨ Light a candle at 7pm on 15th October as part of the Wave of Light a worldwide moment of remembrance.
✨ Reach out to someone you know who’s experienced loss. A message, a hug, or a listening ear can mean everything.
✨ Share your story in your own time, your own way. You never know who needs to hear it.
💗 In Loving Memory
To every parent who’s loved and lost, you are not alone.
To every baby who left too soon, you are forever loved.
